For our first annual tokyobike Re-Cycle Drive, we have partnered with our favorite NYC non-profit, Bike New York, and their community bike shop Recycle-A-Bicycle. Together, we are working to reduce waste, support the community, and make cycling more accessible to the youth of New York City.
How to do it?
Donate your used bicycle at Bike New York's Recycle-A-Bicycle Shop in DUMBO and be sure to collect your tax deductible receipt.
Send us a copy of your tax donation receipt to firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us at tokyobike New York and bring your receipt along to claim your 20% discount.
*Bicycle donations must be in working condition, and must have 20" wheels or larger.
**20% discount will only be provided with valid tax deductible receipt.
Who is Recycle-A-Bicycle?
New York City is known for setting trends - Just over 20 years ago, Recycle-A-Bicycle was founded. Since then they have grown to be an inspiring organization that has set the precedent for other community bike shops all over the US, and beyond.
In 2016 Recycle-A-Bicycle merged with the powerhouse non-profit Bike New York - together these incredible institutions make cycling in New York City better for every New Yorker, and continue to inspire communities across the country to be as strong & supportive as their own.
+ On average Bike New York's Recycle-A-Bicycle program salvages 1,800 bicycles each year from the waste stream, diverting a total of 45,000 pounds of waste from NYC’s landfills!
+ In the past year alone more than 1,000 Recycle-A-Bicycle youth collectively refurbished 500 bicycles & pedaled 24,000 miles
Through innovative programs such as Earn-A-Bike, Green Jobs Training Programs, High School Internships, Recycled Arts Workshops, Summer Youth Employment Program, and Kids Ride Club, Bike New York's Recycle-A-Bicycle program has been dedicated to the health, development, stewardship, and empowerment of NYC youth for more than 20 years.
Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes and encourages bicycling and bicycle safety through education, community outreach and events. They offer free bike education programs throughout the five boroughs. These programs teach kids and adults how to ride a bike, and how to do so safely and confidently in the city.
In 2016 alone, Bike New York taught bike skills to more than 17,000 New Yorkers.
Bike New York organizes numerous annual events, including the TD Five Boro Bike Tour (the largest bike ride in the U.S.)
